What is Tai Chi?
Described as moving meditation, Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese exercise which promotes mental and physical health. The graceful flowing movements bring about a sense of calm while strengthening the joints, muscles and tendons, and improving circulation and breathing.

The full name Tai Chi Chuan translates as 'Supreme Ultimate Fist'. The art can be used as a highly effective self-defence system, though many people are interested in the Health side only. The HTK Tai Chi School teaches both approaches.

The profound effects of Tai Chi have to be experienced to be believed!

What do we teach?
In our North East Tai Chi classes We teach traditional Yang Style, and incorporate aspects of Chen Style, and Gao Style Bagua.

We hold regular workshops for those wishing to explore the deeper aspects of Tai Chi including Self-Defence Applications (see our Events page for details).

Corporate seminars and events can also be arranged. Beginners, intermediates and advanced practitioners welcome. For more information about Tai Chi try our FAQ page or for more detailed information try the Links page or 'Google'. Click on Class Times to find out where and when we teach.

Testimonials:
J.R. Egan (Sunderland):
"When I joined the Tai chi group, I was not in the best of condition. My posture and balance were poor, my muscles were weak, and my joints were stiff. Now ten months later, my friends remark upon my transformation. I am fitter, leaner, and I even feel taller."

A.J.Bolton (Sunderland):
"Tai chi is the perfect activity for anyone aged eight to eighty. I have been attending classes twice a week, for nearly a year now and can honestly say the time spent has been of enormous benefit, both mentally and physically."

A.Graham (Co Durham):
"I have attended Tai Chi classes for about eight months now. I think I have only missed 1 class which for me is a record as after a few sessions I usually lose interest or other activities become more attractive than 'exercise'. The Tai chi sessions are so enjoyable, they are relaxing; almost meditative and are a wonderful way to improve coordination, mobility and suppleness. Tai chi has given me the ability to concentrate more be more focussed and most of all gives me a feeling of wellbeing."
