HTK Tai Chi School Workshops
Our Workshops are held (unless otherwise stated) on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm at:
Sherburn Community Centre DH6 1HD
Cost: £20 per person (unless otherwise stated)
All levels of ability/experience welcome
February 13th 2010 (10am-2:30pm) Theme: Chen Style Jian (Straight Sword)
The Jian (straight sword) is the ancient Chinese weapon of the gentleman. The Chen Style Sword Form is a relatively dynamic set (excellent for overall fitness), and is beautifully graceful.
Cost: £25
February 27th 2010 Theme: The Eight "Energies" of Tai Chi
Through understanding the "Eight Energies" of Tai Chi we can begin to apply the appropriate "Intention" in each movement when we practice. They must also be expressed correctly when using Tai Chi for self-defence.
March 27th 2010 Theme: Tui Shou (Pushing Hands)
Tui Shou is a flowing exercise practiced with a partner. It improves balance, coordination and posture, and is vital for anyone wishing to explore the Self-Defence aspect of Tai Chi.
May 22nd 2010 Theme: Concept of "Sung"
"Sung" is the quality of softness combined with focused intent, and promotes optimum Chi flow. When present in your practice effortless strength is achieved; the joints are opened and muscles are stretched and strengthened.
June 19th 2010 (10am-2:30pm) Theme: Chen Style Jian (Straight Sword) - Part 2
Following the success of our first Sword Workshop this year, this will be a second chance to learn the Form. We got great feedback from those who attended in February, and this will also be a chance for those students to learn more of the Form, and polish their moves!
Cost: £25
July (date to be confirmed) Theme: Self-Defence
The self-defence aspect of Tai Chi Chuan is essential to gaining a comprehensive understanding of the art. Without postures in the Form being applied and tested one can never know whether the Chi is moving correctly. This workshop will be approached in a friendly, relaxed and non-competitive way.
October 2nd 2010 Theme: Developing "Teng Jin"
Teng Jin (Listening Energy) is an important aspect of Tai Chi. Through cooperation with a partner your sensitivity will be increased, and your own strengths and weaknesses revealed, giving you plenty to work on!
October 23rd 2010 Theme: Applying "Yi" or Intention
In the Tai Chi Classics it is written: "Without intention energy cannot arrive". In other words Tai Chi movements must have a clear purpose for the Chi to flow, thereby bringing about any health benefits or martial usefulness.
November 20th 2010 Special Christmas Workshop (shared lunch from 1-2pm) Theme: Applying "Spiralling Energy"
From Galaxies down to DNA everything within the Universe is in Spiral form. This is Nature's Way. When this principle is applied to Tai Chi, your Form will become three-dimensional, therefore amplifying the health and martial benefits.
Cost: £21
